First of all, I'd say starting a business is not for everyone. I'd say number one is have a high-paying threshold入口. There's a friend of mine who's got a good saying话 which is that starting a company is like eating glass and staring以星状物装饰 into the abyss. Okay, that's generally一般地 what happens because when you first start a company, there's lots of optimism乐观 and things are great. So happiness at first is high. Then you encounter遭遇 all sorts of issues and happiness will steadily平稳地 decline拒绝 and then you will go through a whole world of hurt.
And then eventually终于, if you succeed成功, and in most cases you will not succeed成功, and Tesla almost didn't succeed成功, came very close to failure失败, then if you succeed成功 then after a long time you will finally get back to happiness. Really liking what you do, whatever area that you get into, given that even if you're the best the best, there's always a chance of failure失败. Successful entrepreneurs<法>企业家 probably come in all sizes, shapes and flavors. So I think it's important that you really like whatever you're doing.
If you don't like it, life is too short. If you like what you're doing, you think about it even when you're not working. It's something that your mind is drawn to. And if you don't like it, you just really can't make it work, I think. Number three I'd say is you constantly不断地 seek criticism批评. A well thought-out critique批评 of whatever you're doing is as valuable as gold. And you should seek that from everyone you can, but particularly特别 your friends.
Usually your friends know what's wrong, but they don't want to tell you because they don't want to hurt you. So they'll say, "Oh, I would encourage鼓励 my friends so I'm not going to tell them what I think is wrong with this product." It doesn't mean your friends are right, but very often they are right, and you at least want to listen very carefully to what they say. And to everyone, if you're looking for, basically基本上, you should take the approach靠近 that you're wrong, that you, the entrepreneur<法>企业家, are wrong.
Your goal is to be less wrong. Some of the things I've described already I think are very important. I think really natural human tendency倾向 is wishful thinking. So a challenge挑战 for entrepreneurs<法>企业家 is to say, "Well, what's the difference between really believing in your ideals理想 and sticking to them versus pursuing继续 some unrealistic不切实际的 dream that doesn't actually实际上 have merit长处?" That is a really difficult thing to tell you. Can you tell a difference between those two things? For me, you know, an obsessive强迫性的 nature大自然 with respect to the quality of a product is very important.
So you need to be sort of very rigorous严格的 in your self-analysis自己, and then just work like hell. And then the final thing is to sort of, is don't just follow the trend倾向. So you may have heard me say that it's good to think in terms of the physics物理学 approach靠近 of first principles原理, which is rather宁可 than reasoning推理 by analogy类似, you boil things down to the most fundamental基本的 truths真理 you can imagine and you reason推理 up from there. And this is a good way to figure认为 out if something really makes sense or if it's just what everybody else is doing.
It's hard to think that way. You can't think that way about everything. It takes a lot of effort. But if you're trying to do something new, it's the best way to think. And that framework框架 was developed发展 by physicists物理学家 to figure认为 out counterintuitive things like quantum mechanics技工. So it's really a powerful强有力的, powerful强有力的 method. Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoyed this video. I'll see you in the next one. Bye.
